A Historic First: Congressman Herb Conaway Jr., M.D. Sworn-In to U.S House of Representatives
Congressman Herb Conaway Jr., M.D. becomes the first Black physician with voting privileges to serve in Congress.
Today, Congressman Herb Conaway Jr., M.D., issued the following statement after being sworn in as the United States Representative for New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District, which encompasses nearly all of Burlington County and parts of Mercer and Monmouth Counties in the 119th Congress.
“It is one of the greatest honors of my life to be sworn in to represent the people of New Jersey’s 3rd District and I am humbled by the tremendous responsibility that has been entrusted to me by my neighbors. The American people deserve a government that works for them, and I am committed to working with my colleagues to defend democracy, protect reproductive rights, and uplift our economy to ensure that the working families in my District and across the country can thrive for years to come. I am eager to get to work, putting people over politics to deliver results for everyone back home.”
Congressman Herb Conaway Jr. is a proud lifelong resident of Burlington County and the son of a teacher and a nurse. He pursued his passion for medicine, earning an undergraduate degree from Princeton University, a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, and a law degree from Rutgers Law School in Camden. Congressman Conaway began his career by serving in the U.S. Air Force, where he rose to the rank of Captain in the Medical Corps at McGuire Air Force Base. For 27 years, Congressman Conaway served the residents of New Jersey’s 7th Legislative District as an Assemblyman. In the New Jersey Legislature, he chaired the Health Committee and served on the Budget Committee and the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. Congressman Conaway will continue to advocate for an economy that benefits the families of New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District.
It is a great honor to welcome Congressman Herb Conaway. Jr to this 119th Congress.
Your historic accomplishments to the citizens of the New Jersey 3rd district, speaks volumes of what this Congress should welcome and is truly what the fore fathers of our Constitution shared in their writings.
I will forward your message to as many Marylanders for whom I know.
Dear Dr. Conaway,
Much success and good luck to you as a new New Jersey member of Congress.
Please be tough! You’re entering the evil Republican den of thieves. We are holding our breath and hoping that this country will not the controlled by the republican gangs.
Best,
Vicki Toffler
Congratulations….we need men of your caliber to represent our district and our country
Politicians and medicine doesn’t mix.
Unfortunately, he is also a pharma shill who tried to remove the religious exemption in New Jersey, and thus leave many children unable to attend school.
