In Aftermath of Community Excoriation, Paterson Councilman Jackson Posts a Noose on His FB Page

Paterson Ward 1 Councilman Mike Jackson posted an image of a noose in the aftermath of criticism he received for an antisemitic remark at a council meeting earlier this month. Tagging multiple establishment leaders, Jackson asked, “Why are some so interested in silencing my commentary? Why ask for a vote of censorship if I’m not saying anything with merit?”

The trouble started on Sept. 10th.

Speaking out against a developer’s plan to revitalize Hinchliffe Stadium, Jackson said  “Jew us down” in reference to what he indicates are poor past city deals, according to a TapInto report.

It triggered a blizzard of rebuke, and a statewide condemnation of antisemitism.

According to the initial report, Jackson described the phrase, delivered in the midst of an argument “perhaps indicative of [his] upbringing.”

After the meltdown of Councilman Anthony Davis in a bribery scheme, Jackson – a former football player and restauranteur – first won the Ward 1 seat in 2015 in a special election. He’s willed his way through stories detailing financial and business troubles.

One of the earliest critics of Jackson was Passaic County Freeholder Asad Akhter.

Jackson earlier today went off on the Paterson freeholder in another post.

“Paterson! Question for you? Who is this person?” Jackson wondered in the post. “This person attempted to bolster his endowed political position by pouncing on the back of a statement, that was already issued an apology!! Yet his absence on issues that concern the community he “claims to be from”, is sadly more evident to me!!

“Freeholder!!! Where is your statement against the constant violence plaguing my community?” the councilman wanted to know. “Why is your voice silent on the issue of sexual harassment within the Passaic County Sheriff’s department? Why are you silent on issues you’ve been GIVEN authority to weigh in on? Ps. I’m the wrong person to try to build a name on!!!! I fight effortlessly for my community and I do fight back!!”
