Fernando Alonso has stepped forward as a candidate interested in running for the position of chair of the Bergen County Republican Organization (BCRO).

Alonso told Bergen GOP insiders that he has a plan to move the party organization forward, and intends to share details at a meeting scheduled for this coming Tuesday.

An attorney and professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Alonso ran for the assembly in 2011 and for the state senate in 2013, nearly unseating incumbent state Senator Bob Gordon (D-38) during the year of Governor Chris Christie’s reelection bid.
