In response to U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s (D-NJ) nay vote on President Donald Trump’s impeachment, New Jersey Working Families Director Sue Altman issued the following statement:

“Jeff VanDrew’s cowardly vote shows exactly what progressives are up against in South Jersey. New Jersey is a solidly blue state, with a Democratic Governor, Democratically controlled state Legislature, and all but one Democrat in Congress. Yet Van Drew sided with Trump even when other New Jersey members of Congress in districts just as vulnerable voted for impeachment.

“Van Drew’s vote against impeachment was a vote for Trump’s corruption. It’s the clearest example yet that the South Jersey machine which backs Van Drew is out of touch with progressive and mainstream Democrats. These Mar-A-Lago Democrats seem more worried about Trump Republicans than they are about their own voters. That could be a costly mistake.

“And, this is why the New Jersey Working Families will continue to build and organize progressive voters in CD2 and across the state, so that New Jersey has values-driven representation their constituents deserve.”
