Another NJ Man Allegedly Coughs on Others – this Time Cops – While Claiming to be COVID-19 Positive
Colonel Pat Callahan this afternoon at Governor Phil Murphy’s COVID-19 briefing mentioned the latest slew of noncompliance cases, including another case of a man coughing on people while claiming to be a carrier of COVID-19.
Callahan described the Harrington Park overnight incident.
A male subject stopped for allegedly driving while under the influence picked up an aditional charge when he allegedly coughed in the directon of officers to “claimed to be COVID-19 positive,” Callahan said.
It’s not the first time a man coughed on people while claiming to be ill with the deadly virus.
Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal last week announced the filing of criminal charges against a man who allegedly coughed on a Wegman’s food store employee in Manalapan and told the woman that he has the coronavirus.
It’s happening elsewhere too.
This from the Sunshine State:
A Florida man is facing charges that he threatened and assaulted an officer after he coughed on a deputy and said he had the coronavirus, according to authorities.
At today’s briefing at the War Memorial, Callahan ran through other incidents of noncompliance during this time of state shutdown to combat the COVID-19 virus.
In Lakewood, police shut down a bat mitzvah attended by 40-50 people.
The partygoers ate a child neglect charge in addition to a charge of violating the governor’s executive order.
Additionally, people faced charges for running a gym in Bridgeton and a barbershop in Wood-Ridge.
To date, police have handled 70 complicance issues and filed 34 indictable offenses, Callahan said.
Murphy looked riled by the news.
“The patience for ignorance is about zero for somebody to willfully ignore this and put someone else’s life… at stake,” said the governor, musing about the possibility of hiking the penalties for those who do not abide by his executive order.
According to the NJDOH, there have been 3,347 new cases in the past 24 hours, with 16,636 COVID-19 cases, and a loss of another 37 residents, bringing the total fatalities to 198, as of 2pm Monday March 30th.
