Arango and Rendo: ‘Perfect Together’
WEST NEW YORK – Hudson County GOP Chairman Jose Arango choked up as he remembered Woodcliff Mayor Carlos Rendo – the Cuban American kid who showed up at Arango’s office when Arango served as a GOP assemblyman in the 1980s.
“I got emotional,” Arango told InsiderNJ after Kim Guadagno introduced Rendo as her running mate. “I registered him to vote. I was that guy that was 26 years old who made it to the assembly, whom Tom Kean gave an opportunity, and Carlos helped me. He was a good kid. He is the real deal, a family man and a good man – a leader, who is making history today.”
Rendo is the first Latino man to run for lieutenant governor on a major party ticket. Labor Leader Milly Silva, also Hispanic, was the first Latina to seek the position when she ran on Democrat Barbara Buono’s 2013 statewide ticket.
Arango acknowledged Guadagno-Rendo’s challenge. She’s 27 points behind Democrat Phil Murphy, according to polling.
“It’s an uphill battle,” said Arango.

Nothing new here. They are appealing to the same Republican Latinos who always vote Republican.
