Assemblyman Calabrese Tests Positive for COVID-19

He is Asymptomatic and Now in Self-Quarantine, Urges Residents to Stay Safe

(TRENTON) – LD36 Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese (D-Bergen, Passaic) has tested positive for coronavirus after taking a drive-through swab test at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center upon the recommendation of his doctor Tuesday March 17. He issued the following statement:

“I started feeling ill and experiencing flu-like symptoms on Thursday March 12th, but was back to feeling my normal self again by Monday March 16th. As a precaution, I did not attend the Assembly voting session on Monday March 16th.

“Upon consultation with my doctor via teleconference, it was recommended I seek out testing for coronavirus due to my interactions as a legislator despite having a very mild case. It has since been confirmed that, while currently asymptomatic, I am positive for the virus.

“I feel fine and have been in self-quarantine for five days at this point. I want to ensure my friends, colleagues and anyone else I may have had contact with is aware of these facts. My last visit to the Statehouse was for the Assembly Housing Committee hearing that took place on March 5th.

“I am extremely thankful for the tremendous work our medical professionals are doing and strongly urge all people of our state, especially the younger generations, to be acutely aware of their risk and to take precautions by adhering to current state protocols.”

In his early thirties and part of the Calabrese Bergen County political family dynasty, the LD36 Assemblyman was selected to replace former Assemblywoman Marlene Caride in 2018 following her nomination and appointment to head the NJ Department of Banking and Insurance.
