Ten new cases of COVID-19 have been reported as of this morning, Wednesday, April 1, according to the Atlantic County Division of Public Health, bringing the total number of cases countywide to 41.

Public health officials remind residents to remain vigilant and help reduce the spread of the virus by staying home and practicing safe respiratory and hygiene habits as well as to follow the recommended guidance for social distancing.

Due to limited resources, the state Department of Health is restricting testing at this time to only those individuals who are symptomatic for respiratory illness. A positive test does not change the recommended guidance. The data collected is used to help the state in its modeling and projections.

There is currently no vaccine or prescribed treatment for this virus. Those who experience mild or moderate symptoms such as fever, cough, aches and pains, are advised to stay at home, self-isolate and monitor their symptoms. Most recover within two or more weeks.

Individuals with more severe symptoms including fever, cough and shortness of breath, and who may have underlying health conditions including heart or lung disease, diabetes or a compromised immune system, should contact their medical provider.

The statewide COVID-19 case count is 22,255 as of Wednesday afternoon, with 355 fatalities total.
