ATU Rides with Tammy Murphy for U.S. Senate

Calling her a champion of labor unions, working people, and public transit, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) International and the ATU New Jersey State Joint Council proudly endorsed Tammy Murphy for the U.S. Senate today at a meeting of the Council, attended by ATU International President John Costa.

“Throughout her life, Tammy Murphy has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of working families in the state of New Jersey,” said ATU International President John Costa, a former Chair of the ATU NJ State Joint Council. “Her advocacy against climate change and for accessible public transportation has been instrumental in ensuring that all members of our communities have the environmentally friendly mobility they need to thrive. Tammy also believes that to transition New Jersey to renewable energy, we must train workers in good-paying jobs for the clean energy economy. A friend of the ATU, Tammy has consistently stood up for the interests of transit workers and their passengers.”

In addition to her dedication to public transportation, in the Senate, Murphy will be a staunch advocate for workers’ rights. As First Lady of New Jersey to Governor Phil Murphy, she has fought to raise the minimum wage and protect workers from exploitation and discrimination. Under her leadership as a mother of four, she has also taken on the maternal and infant mortality crisis affecting New Jersey’s Black and Brown communities, leading the state to significantly reduce preventable maternal deaths.

“Tammy’s track record as a leader in advancing social justice makes her uniquely qualified to uplift our marginalized communities,” said ATU New Jersey State Joint Council Chair Orlando Riley. “She has been a vocal proponent of rooting out institutional racism, consistently striving to create a more inclusive society for all of us. On behalf of our members across New Jersey, I’m proud the ATU has chosen to endorse Tammy Murphy for U.S. Senate. She’s an amazing public servant who truly cares about the health and well-being of all New Jerseyans.”

“I am proud to receive an endorsement from the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) International and the ATU New Jersey State Joint Council,” said Tammy Murphy. “Each day, the dedicated women and men of the ATU keep our economy strong by safely transporting millions of workers to their jobs, children to their schools, and passengers to their destinations. New Jersey needs a Senator who will prioritize our unions and be an effective leader on the issues we care about most — like protecting the hard working members of the ATU — and that’s exactly what I’ll do. In the U.S. Senate, I fully commit to uphold the values of our dedicated women and men in labor and vow to be a champion for fair wages, good benefits, better working conditions, and the right to organize.”

“The ATU stands behind Tammy Murphy’s candidacy for U.S. Senate and pledges its full support to her campaign,” continued Costa, who said the ATU will be mobilizing our members across the Garden State to elect Murphy. “We believe that her leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to our shared values make her the best choice to represent the people of the Garden State in the U.S. Senate.”

  1. This is a joke. InsiderNJ should call itself the Inside News that is of no use to anyone. The same unions that depend on funding from His Highness the Governor are not going to bite the hand that feeds them.
