Auth Wants a Crack at CD-5 Congressional Seat

Assemblyman Robert "Bob" Auth (R-39)

Veteran Assemblyman Robert Auth (R-39) wants to run for Congress against incumbent U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-5).

His public decision came in the aftermath of last week’s Wildwood rally staged by President Donald J. Trump.

“Had a great time in Wildwood last evening,” the assemblyman posted on his Facebook page. “President Trump electrified the crowed.”

Auth joins a large field of Republican hopefuls in the district Gottheimer snatched from movement conservative U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett (R-5) in 2016.

Other 2020 GOP candidates include Frank Pallotta, John McCann, Mike Ghassali, and Paul Duggan.

Auth is slate mate for Senator Gerald Cardinale (for whom he once worked) and Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi, who last week announced her intentions to run for reelection and not run for governor in 2021.
