BLOOMFIELD – “It’s never too late, you have till 8 o’clock.”
So said Rosemary Becchi as she spent some of the last hours of her
CD-11 congressional campaign going door-to-door here looking for votes.
Heavily Democratic Essex County is tough terrain for a Republican.
Doubters just had to look at a number of Biden and Black Lives Matter signs dotting the neighborhood on and off Broughton Avenue where Becchi visited voters this afternoon.
Becchi seemed undaunted by the city’s political make-up.
“You got to go where you need the votes,” she said.
Democrat Mikie Sherrill won Essex 2-1 in 2018, so Becchi’s aim is to hold down the margin – if she can.
“I think people feel differently this time,” she said.
Becchi planned to knock on more than 50 doors as the clock ticked toward 8 p.m.
When people answered, she introduced herself as a mom, a tax lawyer and a candidate endorsed by the state PBA.
One woman said she already had voted for Becchi.
Another said she was on her way to vote, but didn’t disclose a preference.
And then there was the guy who took a look at the candidate and her campaign literature and said that it was indeed “too late” for campaigning.
