Bergen Record Backs Independent Robert Tormo In Special Election For Sheriff

The Bergen Record endorsed independent candidate for sheriff Robert Tormo this morning, ahead of Tuesday’s special election, taking a pass on GOP candidate Jack DeLorenzo and Democratic candidate Anthony Cureton.

The paper said Tormo ‘impressed the board with his intelligence, his professionalism and his even temperament’ and ‘most of all, in this partisan age, we like that Tormo is an independent, not beholden to either the Democrat or Republican power structures in the county. We think Tormo will be a settling influence on the department and will adjust to the vast management responsibilities that go with the job. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department needs desperately to turn the page, and we think Tormo has the best disposition to accomplish that in short order’.

  1. Something voters should be aware of:

    1) One of disgraced ex-Sheriff Saudino’s undersheriffs was Bob Colaneri

    2) Bob Colaneri is Republican Sheriff John DeLorenzo’s uncle

    3) DeLorenzo can choose to and most likely will retain Colaneri as an undersheriff
