Bramnick to Hold Campaign Fundraiser with former Speaker Boehner

Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick said the NJ Legislature must stay in session this summer to take care of the state’s unaddressed issues.

While the other GOP 2025 Primary candidates are falling all over themselves to get the attention of Marjorie Taylor Greene, state Senator Jon Bramnick has an upcoming campaign cocktail reception scheduled with former House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio.

On the schedule for Dec. 2nd in Naples, Florida, the fundraising event for Bramnick’s gubernatorial candidacy has $$2K, $1K, and $250 slots for guests looking to support the statewide candidacy of the veteran Republican lawmaker from Union County.

Boehner served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1991 to 2015 and as Speaker from 2011 to 2015.

According to The American Conservative, he is among several retired Republican politicians who in 2022 created an organization, “Our Republican Legacy,” to promote neoconservatism and oppose the former President Donald Trump.  “The group, which was announced in a Washington Post op-ed by former Senators John Danforth, William Cohen (who was also Secretary of Defense under Bill Clinton), and Alan Simpson, aims to provide “resistance” and “credible leadership with sufficient funding” to oppose populism. The group notably includes… former Vice-President Dan Quayle, former RNC Chairman Michael Steele, and former Representative Adam Kinzinger as some of its founding members.”

  1. While I applaud the Republican leadership who still prize conservative values instead of kissing up to Trump, I do find it funny that while he was house speaker he fought to keep marijuana illegal he almost immediately became a major power in marijuana business. The first company allowed in NJ, down in South Jersey, was part of his group. ‘“Boehner is on the board of Acreage Holdings, which announced a $3.4 billion acquisition deal with Canopy Growth, the world’s most valuable weed company.
That’s right: John Boehner—who said in 2011 that he was “unalterably opposed to the legalization of marijuana”— is now all-in for Big Weed. “
