Bramnick: Wolf’s Routine was Hate, not Comedy
Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick (R-21) reacted to the social media storm over the White House Correspondents Dinner and the controversial stand-up routine of Michelle Wolf.
“I have disagreed with President Trump on more than one occasion,” said Bramnick, himself a stand-up comic. “Yet the comedy at the Correspondence Dinner was based in hate, not comedy. Writing comedy is an art. It is easy to write hate, more difficult to write comedy. I filled in for Christie one year at the NJ Correspondence Dinner and it takes an incredible amount of time to get it right.
“Theses dinners are important and I hope they continue in an artful way,” said Bramnick, routinely a critic of President Donald J. Trump, who refused to attend the dinner and later tweeted outrage.
A former Daily Show correspondent, Wolf at the dinner lit up Trump’s press secretary in lieu of the prez, comparing Sarah Huckabee Sanders to a Nurse Ratched-like character in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” noting that she “burns facts and then uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye,” in reference to Huckabee Sanders’ makeup.
