Brandi Warren Joins Jim McGreevey’s Ticket for Mayor of Jersey City

Mayoral candidate Jim McGreevey welcomed Brandi Warren to his team today as the prospective Ward A Councilwoman for Jersey City. Warren is the Director of the New Jersey City University (NJCU) Center for Teacher Preparation.

Warren received her high school diploma from Lincoln High School (Jersey City, NJ), Bachelor of Arts in History and Secondary Education at the College of New Jersey (Ewing, NJ), before earning a Master of Arts in Urban Education: Administration and Supervision from NJCU (Jersey City, NJ). In addition to serving as Director at NJCU, Warren is an Instructor and Expert Panel Review Member for NJ PSA (New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association; Monroe, NJ). In these roles, Warren implements best practice models for educational internships, course content, and lesson plans and manages an ongoing caseload of students, teachers, and faculty.

During her career in education, Warren co-authored the NJCU and Bergen Community College Partnership Agreement. She has presented at the Lincoln High School College Preparatory Incentive Program and the P.S. 38 Girls’ Club Career Planning program. Warren is an Executive Committee member of NJACTE (New Jersey Association of Colleges of Teacher Education), and she has served twice as the New Jersey Delegate for NJACTE Washington Week. Warren created, coordinated, and hosted the 2022 and 2023 Virtual MLK Day of Service, and she contributed to the Diversifying the Teacher Workforce Grant proposal.

Warren stated, “The residents of Jersey City deserve genuine representation on the City Council. My goal, if elected, is to bring a sense of “servant leadership” to Ward A. As a higher education professional, I look forward to working to enhance the quality of education for all of Jersey City’s children.”

Jim McGreevey stated, “Brandi Warren will be an outstanding Councilperson. Brandi is committed to Jersey City, her Church, Monumental Baptist, and our community. As education is the cornerstone of our children’s future, it is paramount that Jersey City offers a quality education to every child, regardless of zip code. Mrs. Warren works with teachers and students daily to improve the quality of education.”

McGreevey proposes a more substantial partnership between City Hall and the Board of Education to provide significant investments in school infrastructure, an update to the curriculum of Jersey City public schools, greater support for teachers’ professional development, and a more collaborative, community-involved approach to education.

Beyond education, Warren has had an impactful career in public service. She was a member by invitation of Senator Sandra Cunningham’s Women’s Advisory Group and an Advisory Board Member of Yemaya (a non-religious initiative for women of African descent) at NJCU. She served as President of CARE (Community Activism Reaching Everyone), a Team Leader at the N.J. Attorney General’s Fugitive Safe Surrender program, and a Program Coordinator for Shoot Hoops, Not Guns. She has won the Woman of Distinction Award from the Jersey City Branch of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People).

Warren and her family are lifetime members of the Monumental Baptist Church; the church has been a pillar in the community. Monumental Baptist is where Brandi’s sense of public service was fostered.

The announcement of the first person to join the McGreevey ticket comes during McGreevey’s Listening Tour through Jersey City. On his tour, McGreevey is walking through each of the City’s wards listening to neighbors’ concerns, observations, and aspirations. While walking through Ward A, colloquially known as Greenville, Warren joined McGreevey to listen to the voices of the Ward she hopes to serve in City Hall.
