Brigantine Reeling in the Aftermath of Anti-Semitic Flyers
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate an incident in Brigantine, where someone threw hundreds of anti-Semitic flyers onto people’s lawns over the weekend.
“Brigantine City police say the flyers were distributed across the island between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Police confirm they are investigating this as a ‘bias incident.’
“While the flyers didn’t contain any specific threats, the Jewish community in Brigantine does feel threatened.”
A resident of Brigantine, former U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) and his children showed copies of the flyers in a video he shared on his social media.
“Last night there was anti-Semitic material spread throughout our neighborhood,” said Kennedy, before exhorting his children to read the quote by the theologian Martin Niemoller:
“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
Concerned community members have scheduled a solidarity event at the Niemoller Monument (please see details below).
We left Brigantine Sunday morning after renting a beautiful house on the bay.we had a wonderful week. As a human being, an American and a Jew, it sickens me to see what is happening in neighborhoods all over this country. . It’s all a result of ignorance . These people don’t even have the slightest idea what went on during the Holocaust, and others don’t believe it ever even happened. Maybe if they picked up a book , they would learn the horrors of what really happened. The absurdity of it all, is that They don’t even know why they Hate us.! Never Again!!
Thank you Brigantine Democratic Club. Indeed, hate and bigotry should have no place in wonderful Brigantine. I have a condo and have never felt any kind of hatred in the air around town. I would be outraged were it to become otherwise. I wish I could have been there yesterday; I would have stood with you in solidarity, and do so now!!!
