CD3 Flashpoint: Kim v. Richter

Richter

The first post-primary poll in Congressional District 3 has Andy Kim leading by 3 points over Republican David Richter.

Like so many samplings, especially early ones, both sides can see things here that they like.

The poll was conducted by Basswood Research, a conservative polling organization. It its own words, Bassword says it has “served as pollster for leading conservative advocacy groups such as the Club for Growth.”

And it takes credit for helping to elect “leading conservatives” such as Senators Tom Cotton, (Ark), Pat Toomey (Pa.) and Tim Scott (S.C.).

So if Kim is leading in a poll conducted by a conservative organization, that’s pretty good news for him.

On the other hand, a 3-point lead is within the margin of error.

And as the pollster’s narrative points out, “Richter is highly competitive despite being far less well-known than Kim.” That’s a legitimate point.

Richter earlier this month beat Kate Gibbs in a highly-acrimonious Republican primary in a district that ranges over Ocean and Burlington counties.

CD-3 is one of the interesting congressional races to watch this year and we will undoubtedly see more polling.

The poll also found that Donald Trump leads Joseph Biden in the district by 3 points. That also is within the margin of error.

  1. Congressman Andy Kim is the best representative this district has been lucky enough to have. He is honest as the day is long, funny, humble, intelligent, and has walked and provided guidance to those of the Situation Room. His opponent is and has done none of these.
