Conaway Victorious
Herb Conaway, the veteran Assemblyman from Burlington County, tonight defeated his Democratic Primary rival Assemblywoman Carol Murphy to win the nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives in CD-3.
That’s the district U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (D-3) wants to leave behind for the U.S. Senate.
Incidentally, Kim won his primary tonight, too.
From the Conaway Campaign:
Tonight, Dr. Herb Conaway secured the Democratic nomination in New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District primary in a resounding victory. Conaway, a State Assemblyman, physician, and former captain in the U.S. Air Force, ran on his profile and his record delivering for south and central Jersey families. In Congress, Dr. Conaway will lead the fight to protect democracy from MAGA extremists, expand women’s reproductive freedoms, including the right to a safe abortion, reign in the cost of healthcare and cost of living, and tackle climate change. If elected in November, Dr. Conaway will make history as the first Black member of Congress to represent South Jersey, and as the first Black doctor with voting rights ever elected to Congress.
“Tonight we stand united in our belief that we must defeat MAGA extremists who pose a serious threat to all the freedoms we love and cherish,” said Dr. Conaway.
“This election is the most consequential of our lifetime because the fate of our democracy will be on the ballot this November. Women’s reproductive rights will be on the ballot. Protecting our environment and tackling climate change will be on the ballot. Creating jobs and building an economy that works for all of us will be on the ballot,” said Dr. Conaway.
“I got into this race because, as a former captain in the Air Force, I took an oath to protect our constitution and rule of law. The same constitution that MAGA extremists want to shred to pieces. In Congress, I will stand up to fight for democracy, the rule of law, and our right to vote.
“I got into this race because, as a Physician, I took an oath to do no harm and protect our most vulnerable. MAGA extremists now want to cause harm by banning a woman’s right to an abortion. In Congress, I’ll take on those MAGA extremists and fight for a woman’s right to safe and legal abortions.
“We all have a very important role to play this November. We need to come together and unite in making sure we do everything in our power to help re-elect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, elect Andy Kim to the U.S. Senate, and help Democrats win back the majority in the U.S. House,” concluded Conaway.
