Controversial Castro Wants Consideration for 6th Ward Paterson Council Seat

Jesus Castro, the ally of former Paterson Mayor Jose “Joey” Torres and former planning board member who found himself fighting charges down the stretch of the May nonpartisan election that he was involved in the dissemination of a hateful flier, wants to be considered for the vacant 6th Ward seat.

The seat in question belongs to Mayor-elect Andre Sayegh, who will abandon it to assume the city’s chief executive position.

Last week, in the immediate aftermath of the flier flap, Castro told InsiderNJ that he was innocent, and blamed the Sayegh Camp for blaming him.

Today, in a letter to Paterson City Clerk Sonia Gordon, Castro said, “As a resident of the city and in particular the 6th ward, I feel that my experience in advocating for the city at large will be an asset in the section process.”

The Paterson Times earlier today reported that Mitch Santiago is interested in the seat; as is Paterson Democratic Committee Co-Chair Al Abdel-aziz.
