Coughlin on Borrowing to Help NJ Through COVID-19 Pandemic

Speaker Craig Coughlin says he opposed a millionaire's tax going back to October of last year, and money dumping into New Directions NJ's millionaire’s tax campaign didn’t alter his essential attitude.

Responding to reports the State of New Jersey is considering borrowing funds to shore up revenues and assist residents and businesses struggling as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement today:

“To help us through the unique challenges and the significant revenue loss the coronavirus public health emergency has caused, I will work with Governor Murphy and Senate President Sweeney to responsibly borrow funds to make up for our revenue  shortfall and stimulate our economy.

“Funds must be specifically dedicated to assisting our residents, businesses, municipalities and schools. We must simultaneously achieve budget savings during this most challenging period in our time.

Stay safe!”
