Speaker Craig Coughlin Tells Caucus Members to Keep Cool on Millionaire’s Tax

As the NJ Legislature now awaits Governor Phil Murphy’s actions on the 2020 budget, a veteran statehouse source admitted to being confused about front office gamesmanship. The source also predicts the state government will shut down for a day or two.

Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-19) told his caucus members to keep their powder dry on the millionaire’s tax.

That’s because he doesn’t back it right now.

He doesn’t want members going out there, sticking their necks on the line, when he’s not moving it, a source said.

Governor Phil Murphy, of course, backs the tax.
