Currie Taps Axel Owen to Serve as Political Director for State Dems

Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee John Currie today officially named Alexander “Axel” Owen as political director of the party organization.

Owen moves to the state party after successfully managing the Gopal, Downey, and Houghtaling campaign in Legislative District 11, where he helped turn a Republican-controlled state senate seat in Monmouth County from red to blue.

“With the addition of Axel, we are ramping up our campaign operations at a critical juncture. This year is New Jersey’s chance to hold Republicans accountable for Donald Trump’s lies, deceit, and the divisive agenda they’ve helped him promote. To do that, we need to educate, organize, and mobilize voters. Axel has proven quite good at doing that,” said Currie.

In partnership with the new party executive director, Liz Gilbert, Axel will turn his attention to the five congressional Republican incumbents, all of whom are currently being targeted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

“I am sure that the Democratic activists, labor leaders, campaign managers and candidates that have not yet worked with Axel will soon appreciate his savvy and responsiveness as much as those who already have,” Currie added. “I am eager to set him loose, and see what he can do in the varied political turf of the state’s 21 counties.”

Owen received a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Government from Ripon College in May 2009.
