DACC Executive Director Calls for Parker Space’s Immediate Resignation
Trying to assert relevance as former ED Michael Mueller primarily throws his shoulder into other opponents, the Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee (DACC) today called on Republican Assemblyman Parker Space (R-24) to resign.
Mark Matzen Executive Director Mark Matzen noted that Space was caught on tape calling his Democratic opponent Kate Matteson a “bitch.” Only weeks ago, in a story first reported by InsiderNJ, Space made national headlines for sharing a photo of himself posing in front of a Confederate Flag with the words “If the South would’ve won we would’ve had it made” emblazoned on it, and he has now once again proven that he is unfit for public office by verbally abusing Matteson, a community leader and mother of four.
“Parker Space is an example of what can happen when a political party embraces the worst of human impulses and turns a blind eye to the ugliness brewing in its own backyard,” said Matzen. “His disgusting conduct, regressive worldview and lack of respect for women and anyone different from himself proves that he’s absolutely unfit for public office, and until Republican leaders from around the state join us in denouncing Parker Space and calling for his resignation, we have no conclusion to draw other than that they are complicit in promoting hate and intolerance.”
Matzen said Space’s embrace of the Confederate Flag and his normalizing of hate speech is having effects beyond his own campaign — just this week, antisemitic and white supremacist graffiti was found at a diner in Space’s home town.
