ELEC Public Matching Funds: Murphy v. Ciattarelli
The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) has approved $1,475,149 in public
matching funds for the two major party candidates in the 2021 gubernatorial general election.
Approximately $13.6 million has been distributed to the two candidates since the general election began.
That is 65% of the $21 million in public funds available for the election. The election is November 2.

Under the Gubernatorial Public Financing program, which began in 1974, candidates who raise
$490,000 or more can qualify for public matching funds. General election candidates are eligible for up to $10.5 million in public funds. In exchange, other than a few exceptions, they must limit their total general election spending to $15.6 million.
