Former 2nd Ward Councilman Goow Running for an At-Large Council Seat in Paterson

Former 2nd Ward Councilman Aslon Goow, Sr. this evening announced his candidacy for at-large council in the upcoming May 2018 municipal election.

A rival of jailed former Mayor Jose “Joey” Torres, Goow says it’s just time.

“Time and time again, our elected officials in Paterson let us down,” Goow said. “We just saw another mayor go down on corruption charges.  Enough is enough – we need to take our city back.”

The former elected official represented the 2nd Ward with a visible hands-on approach from 2000-2012, assisting in the restoration of Pennington Park, opposing tax increases, bringing back $2 million in state aid, serving as the City Council President, Chair of the Public Safety Committee, Co-Chair of the Finance Committee, Chair of the DPW Committee, as well as serving on other committees.

“I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on my record of public service and my tenure in office, but I keep thinking of the progress we have yet to make,” Goow said. “A tough job requires a strong leader, and I still believe that Paterson can be a safer and more prosperous city for everyone, in every ward.”

The former councilman placed third in the 2014 mayoral race out of eight candidates.
