Former Senate Prez Bennett Takes Administrator’s Position in Woodbridge

The new Woodbridge Township Administrator is former Senate President John O. Bennett, whose claim to fame in office was a pushing and shoving match with South Jersey Democratic Party powerbroker George Norcross III.

A Republican, Bennett is the former Monmouth County Republican Chairman, turned out of office by sitting Chairman Shaun Golden.

Bennett lost his senate seat in a 2003 election to Ellen Karcher, who in turn lost that seat in 2007 to Jennifer Beck.

Bennett and sitting Democratic Mayor of Woodbridge John McCormac formed a friendship when McCormac served as state treasurer under Acting Governor Dick Codey.

Bennett is the former business administrator of Oceanport, and later of Lavallette. He’s been on the job for three weeks in Woodbridge, according to a source.
