Freiman and Jaffer Win as LD16 Dems Sweep

The New Jersey Statehouse and Capitol Building In Trenton

The running mates of Senator-elect Andrew Zwicker – Assemblyman Roy Freiman and former Montgomery Mayor Sadaf Jaffer – have prevailed in the 16th District.

Freiman at last count was up by 2,600 votes over his nearest Republican challenger.

Jaffer was head by 1,200 votes.

The 16th District is the only legislative district in two states where the incumbents picked up a seat.

The Democratic ticket of Zwicker, Freiman and Jaffer accomplished that in a district that doubles as the residence of Jack Ciattarelli, the Republican nominee for governor from Hillsborough who stunned the state on Tuesday by nearly defeating incumbent Governor Phil Murphy.

“I would like to thank our staff, volunteers, and everyone on our campaign team who have worked tirelessly throughout the election. The campaign  could not have achieved the success we did without their incredible support,” said Assemblyman Freiman. “I am proud of our  positive campaign, advocating for transparency and compassionate values. I am honored to have earned another term serving the 16th District, and look forward to continuing the work to improve quality of life in New Jersey. I am also grateful to serve alongside my running mates Andrew Zwicker and Sadaf Jaffer.”

“I am truly honored that our team has earned the support of the voters in the 16th district,” said Assemblywoman-Elect Jaffer. “Thank you to all of the volunteers who knocked on doors, made phone calls, and encouraged civic engagement in the community. I am grateful for our campaign staff and supporters with whom we share this victory tonight. My election to the General Assembly brings us closer to having a State Legislature that reflects the diversity of our state, and I hope this inspires people from diverse backgrounds to get more involved in public service. I am looking forward to working with Senator-Elect Zwicker and Assemblyman Freiman to serve the people of New Jersey and build a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous future.”
