Gottheimer Statement on Swastika at the State Department

Gottheimer

Today, Tuesday, July 27, 2021, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement:

This hateful display of antisemitism, reportedly nearby our own federal government’s office to fight such things, is extremely disturbing, repugnant, and simply un-American.”

From the NBC Report:

A swastika was found carved in an elevator at the State Department, the federal diplomatic agency said on Tuesday.

The swastika has been removed and the incident is being investigated, Jalina Porter, spokesperson at the State Department, said during a press conference.

Porter said Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is Jewish, shared a message with all employees about the incident.

“It is critical that a U.S. Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism be immediately named,” Gottheimer said.

“I am confident Secretary of State Blinken is committed to confronting the rising trend of hate, antisemitism, and xenophobia against ethnic and religious groups — Jewish, Christian, Muslim, or otherwise.”
