Harrison Snags Backing of International Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 711 (IUPAT)
The International Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 711 (IUPAT) announced today that it will endorse Brigid Harrison in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District.
The IUPAT represents over 4,000 New Jersey industrial and commercial painters, drywall finishers,
wall coverers, glaziers, glass workers, floor covering installers, sign makers, display workers,
convention and show decorators and is recognized as one of the most active unions in the labor
movement in the country.
The following is a statement Vincent Lane, Business Manager/SecretaryTreasurer:
“The International Union of Painters & Allied Trades District Council 711 has a history of fighting
passionately for workers’ rights, and have effectively and aggressively organized to ensure political
mobilization and have been instrumental in helping to shape the communities of South Jersey for
over 100 years.
“It is for this reason that we are not only proud to endorse Brigid Callahan Harrison for Congress, but
feel it is our obligation to do it now at this important moment in the race.
“We all must realize that this year is unlike any other. The 2020 race of New Jersey’s 2nd
Congressional District is the most important in the nation and it is clear that Brigid Harrison is the only
candidate formable and organized to step up and lead the district in the right direction.
“Brigid has the experience, the campaign infrastructure, local fundraising ability, and grassroots
support to win. While many in South Jersey know her name as both a nationally recognized policy
expert and as someone who has been part of our community since she was a child, this decision that
we made was made for far more than a name. We deserve a Member of Congress who will work to
make jobs safer and to unite Democrats and Republicans to create needed legislation that affect all
working families. We know she will fight to improve wages, working conditions, and support
collective bargaining because she has done so her whole professional life. We are proud to support
our union sister, Brigid Callahan Harrison for Congress to represent New Jersey’s Second
Congressional District.”
The endorsement comes on the heels of a series of recent union-based endorsements…AFT NJ, Unite Here Local 54, South Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council, Atlantic and Cape May Counties Central Labor Council.
