In Hawthorne, Ward 2 GOP Councilman John Bertollo, a longtime incumbent, won’t seek re-election this year. The local GOP, chaired by Mayor Rich Goldberg, has tapped Environmental Commissioner Rayna Laiosa to run for the seat.
The two other incumbents, Ward 3 Councilman Garrett Sinning (who is facing a potential primary challenge) and Ward 4 Councilman Frank Matthews are running for re-election, while the party picked Joanne Fitzsimmons to run against Ward 1 Democrat Joe Wojtecki.
The slate submitted their petitions on Friday.
