Hoboken Announces First Presumptive Positive Coronavirus Case

Bhalla

Mayor Bhalla posted the follow on Facebook this afternoon announcing the first positive presumptive case of coronavirus in the city:

‘I was informed by the Hoboken Health Department today of the first known positive case of COVID-19 in Hoboken. Our Hoboken Health Department has been in close contact, and the individual – who is experiencing mild symptoms and expected to fully recover – is in self-isolation at home.

We unfortunately anticipate the likelihood of additional positive COVID-19 cases to be confirmed in the days and weeks ahead, which haven’t yet been discovered. However, we’re doing everything possible to limit the spread through proactive measures and regulations. I’m grateful for the community’s cooperation during this challenging time.

UPDATE 1:42 pm: A quick note about today’s positive COVID-19 case – the individual was very responsible and once he felt symptoms, he immediately reached out to his primary care physician, quickly began self-isolation before even receiving the positive test (which he is continuing). This prompt action allowed our Health Department to be proactive in reaching out to those who were in contact with him to recommend self-quarantine which is happening. Due to confidentiality rules we can’t give out more specific information about the individual but I hope others who feel sick take it seriously, call their primary care physician and then stay safe at home.

Earlier on Friday, Jersey City announced its first case, bringing the known Hudson County cases to 3, as of this time.

On Thursday afternoon, NJDOH Commissioner Judith Persichilli announced that there were six new cases of coronavirus, with the total at 29 presumptive positives.  The Jersey City and Hoboken cases would bring that case count up to 31.

Governor Murphy has recommended the cancellation or postponement of all public gatherings of over 250 people.
