In Honor of Women’s History Month: NJ Women Running for Office in 2018

Mike Sherrill. The well-connected CD11 Democrat wants the seat left behind by retiring U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen. She has all the key organizational support in the party and good cash reserves.

Tamara Harris. The counselor also wants the CD11 seat. The Democrat doesn’t have Sherrill’s institutional support, but she has some cash and to date has run an aggressive, people power campaign.

Tanzie Youngblood. The CD2 Democrat – a retired teacher – wants to make state Senator Jeff Van Drew (D-1) work for the seat left behind by retiring U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-2).

Bonnie Watson Coleman. The U.S. Representative from the 12th District – New Jersey’s only congresswoman – will likely face a general election challenge from Republican attorney Daryl Kipnis.

Verlina Reynolds Jackson. The 15th District Assemblywoman is running in a special November election to succeed former Assemblywoman Treasurer Liz Muoio.

Britnee Timberlake. The 34th District Assemblywoman is running in a special November election to formally succeed for Assemblywoman Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver.

Maureen Kern. The incumbent Atlantic County Freeholder won the Republican line on Saturday in pursuit of another countywide term.

Tracy Zur. The incumbent Democratic Freeholder is up for reelection in Bergen County.

Sandi Lazzara. The Freeholder Board Director is up for reelection this year in Passaic County .

Danielle Ireland. She’s running for Clerk in Passaic County to replace Senator Kristin Corrado.

Gayle Chaneyfield Jenkins. Newark’s Central Ward councilwoman is taking a citywide crack at incumbent Mayor Ras Baraka.

Maritza Davila. An incumbent at-large councilwoman, Davila is running for an at-large seat in the competitive citywide Paterson election on May 8th. She is the only Latina in the contest.

Lilisa Mimms. The outreach minister is running in the May nonpartisan at-large council election in Paterson.

Angela Muhammed and Fatima Bell are also seeking seats on the Paterson City Council.

Crystal Fonseca. The daughter of Democratic Party operative Pablo Fonseca is running in a competitive three-way contest for Newark East Ward Council, against incumbent Councilman Augusto Amador and former Police Director Anthony Campos.

Gretchen Hickey. Running in the Democratic Primary, the 10th Ward Linden Councilwoman wants the seat now occupied by incumbent Mayor Derek Armstead.

Rhashonna C. Cosby. In a three-way primary, Linden’s 5th Ward Councilwoman is running for the mayoralty against incumbent Armstead.

Sara Todisco. The Garwood Councilwoman is undertaking a Democratic Primary run against incumbent Mayor Charles Lombardo.

Amber Gesslein. The up and coming Democrat is running for a Freeholder seat in Monmouth County.

Ashley Davis. The 1st Ward Democratic candidate is running for council in Plainfield.

Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski.  The Bayonne Council President is leading the charge on Team Davis’ council slate this year.

Sharma Montgomery and Melissa Enriquez-Radez.  Both are running for council on Jason O’Donnell’s slate in Bayonne.

Lori Mambelli. Backed by the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization, she’s running for Freeholder.

Esther Perez. The Council President made a comeback in 2016 after an electoral hiatus and is running for reelection on Mayor Khairullah’s slate .
