HPAE Endorses Mikie Sherrill for Reelection
The Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE) announced today their endorsement of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for reelection in NJ-11.
“Mikie has consistently displayed the leadership and vision that makes us proud to endorse her reelection to Congress in the 11th District of New Jersey. Whether it is advocating for safe working conditions for healthcare workers, or ensuring University Hospital has the support it needs to serve the public, Mikie has stood behind the nurses and healthcare workers across New Jersey,” said Debbie White, RN, HPAE President.
“For over two years, our nurses and medical professionals have been on the front lines fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, and I am extremely grateful for both their sacrifice and support,” said Rep. Mikie Sherrill. “Having the endorsement of HPAE reaffirms our shared goal of making sure our healthcare professionals have the tools they need to keep our communities safe.”
The Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE) is the largest union of Registered Nurses and health care professionals in New Jersey. With 14,000 members, their membership has more than tripled in size since 1981. HPAE members across 21 locals include nurses, social workers, therapists, technicians, medical researchers, and other healthcare professionals. They work in hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, blood banks, and university research facilities throughout New Jersey.
The union said Sherrill is focused on addressing healthcare issues for New Jersey families. She fought to get New Jersey the aid it needed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic for our hospitals, long-term care facilities, and first responders in the 11th District. Congresswoman Sherrill helped secure significant funding to support our healthcare professionals in safely combating the pandemic. She also co-sponsored several pieces of legislation to raise wages for our healthcare workforce, expand labor and safety protections for workers, and improve working conditions in our nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
