Hugin Tells Hunterdon GOP Crowd He’s Up by Two Points
FLEMINGTON – Bob Hugin rolled in here this afternoon on the heels of a “Beers with Bob” event he did last night, which he touted to the crowd crammed into party headquarters on the side of the semi-busy (for Hunterdon) traffic circle.
“We watched a little football,” he said heartily to handclaps.
Hunterdon County GOP Chairman Pat Torpey welcomed him with a big, expressive handshake, just before the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate went through the paces of reminding people why they have to vote for him on Tuesday.
“There’s only one constituency I’m going to be beholden to and that’s the people of New Jersey,” said Hugin. “I’m going to represent everybody, that’s why we’re running.”
He was upbeat.
“The last poll we did a couple days ago had us up by two points,” he told the crowd, whom he referred to as the “bedrock of Republicanism.” A Stockton Poll on Friday put Menendez up by double digits, while most other polls shows the Democrat leading Hugin by anywhere from five to eight points.
They went bonkers.
Standing up behind him in support was Assemblyman Erik Peterson (R-23).
“We win if we get the vote out,” said Hugin.
But he acknowledged the weight of the numbers, over 900,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans in New Jersey, without mentioning that other dreaded concept here the Democrats keep bullhorning: President Donald J. Trump.
Torpey said it won’t matter.
“Bob Menendez is corrupt,” the Hunterdon Chair told the crowd.
Bob Hugin has my vote – Menendez is a total crook and embodies everything the American people hate about politicians: lifelong politician, drowning in corruption.
