Incumbent Democratic Senator Menendez Defeats Republican Challenger Bob Hugin

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) tonight won reelection to another six years, defeating financially well-connected Republican challenger Bob Hugin.

Seared by a corruption trial, the Democratic incumbent struggled early against a $36 million Hugin onslaught, but appeared late in the game to take advantage of anti-Donald Trump attitudes in the state.

His party’s GOTV effort over the weekend appeared fully engaged; that coupled with push-back against the president propelled him past his rival.
