In a “Kickoff Event” for the annual India Day Parade, taking place this year on August 12th in Edison, members of the Indian Business Association descended on Capitol Hill to promote national awareness of the annual celebration and highlight policy issues affecting Indian-Americans.

The event, in the conference room of House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, was hosted by Illinois Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and afforded IBA supporters the opportunity to meet with 18 Members of Congress, including household names like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer.

Seven of New Jersey’s Congressional Delegation attended, including Rep. McArthur, Rep. Norcross, Rep. Watson Coleman, Rep. Lance, Rep. Sires, Rep. Gottheimer, and Rep. Pascrell.

The IBA’s flagship event is the yearly India Day Parade, drawing about 40,000 people from across the country. The IBA trip to Washington marks a new effort the organization has made to expand the non-profit into new charitable causes, while expanding the audience to a more national level.

Multiple sectors of the business community were represented in Tuesday’s IBA delegation. The group would like to make it an annual event.
