Assemblyman Joe Danielsen (D-17), a U.S. Army veteran, issued the following statement regarding the Trump-incited mob storming of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday:
“As the chairman of the Assembly Oversight, Reform and Federal Relations Committee, as well as a former member of our armed services, I took an oath to preserve and protect our nation and its Constitution. The actions yesterday in our nation’s capital was a lawless and a seditious act by terrorists who defiled the sanctity of our halls of democracy. For too long, too many ignored the warning signs and the failure therefore must be a shared blame. Words in fact matter and lies do have consequences. I call on our citizens to pray for our nation’s healing and to respect the rule of law. Without these values, we lessen ourselves, our nation and our democratic principles.”
“The main mission of the Trump followers in my opinion was to destroy the original ballots of the electors. Thankfully a staff member thought quickly and secured them. Imagine if they got their hands on them. Last ditch effort to blow up the election.”
