InsiderNJ Poll: Who Won the Presidential Debate?

Vice President Kamala Harris tonight debated former President Donald J. Trump in their first – and only scheduled – face-to-face showdown as they head toward the Nov. 5th presidential election.

In the debate, Trump refused to acknowledge that he lost the 2020 election, which he lost to Joe Biden.

Said Harris, “He talks about fictional characters like Hannibal Lecter. He will talk about ‘windmills cause cancer.’ And what you will also notice is that people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom.'”

From the Associated Press:

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday amplified false rumors that Haitian immigrants in Ohio were abducting and eating pets, repeating during a televised debate the type of inflammatory and anti-immigrant rhetoric he has promoted throughout his campaigns.

There is no evidence that Haitian immigrants in an Ohio community are doing that, officials say. But during the debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump specifically mentioned Springfield, Ohio, the town at the center of the claims, saying that immigrants were taking over the city.

From CBS News:

Here’s what Harris has proposed:

  • Harris says she’d provide bigger tax benefits for families but would offset the costs by raising corporate taxes, while Trump has said he’d extend the tax cuts enacted in 2017.
  • Under Harris’ tax plan, according to an analysis by the Penn Wharton Budget Model, 95% of Americans would see lower taxes, and higher earners would pay more taxes. The top 0.1% — whose annual average income exceeds $14 million — would pay about $167,000 more in taxes.
  • Harris wants to eliminate federal taxes on tips, which Trump first proposed.
  • She also says she wants to provide a financial cushion for small businesses with a tenfold increase in the startup expense deduction — lifting it from $5,000 to $50,000. New businesses wouldn’t need to claim the deduction in their first year, when many take losses and would not be able to use it. Instead, they’d be able to wait until they’re profitable and use the deduction at that time. Businesses would also be able to take part of the deduction in one year and save the rest for future years.

Now, here’s the question of the hour:

  1. Harris was well prepared and knew exactly how to get under Trump’s skin. The moment she walked in the stage, she was in charge of the truth and rhetoric in the room. Trump totally spiralled and was on the defense the whole time; which is shocking because he’s usually so fired and combative in debates. This was a bad night for Donald Trump. It was, however, a great success for Harris. I feel like I finally know who Harris is as a candidate and person. Her efforts to bring energy independence to America by ending our reliance of foreign oil and her demand for a ceasefire now in Palestine are important to me.

  2. Its wasnt a fair debate they kept cutting Trump off anyways Kamila is a fake. And she has had 3.5 yr to fix things and have only made things worse. Trump 2024!

  3. Trump surely knows his turf. He talked truth and substance and that’s was what the nation need to be affirmed of.

  4. Donald couldn’t even look here in her eyes, he spoke in circles and continued to fall back on immigration. Division, hate, anger and fear is all he focuses on and claims he has a magic wand to make it all go away.

  5. Trumps comment about “they’re eating the dogs” was even worse than “we finally beat Medicare”…. historically terrible performance. He is so diminished, what a loser.

  6. Considering it was 3-on-1 (Harris and the two “moderators”), and that Harris couldn’t stop insulting Trump and bringing up the past, while she kept saying “let’s not go back” and “let’s not be divisive – we’re all Americans,” Harris showed how well she has mastered talking out of both sides of her mouth. She talked about “I have a plan” (like “hope,” “change,” and a “dream”), but she hasn’t posted any policies! Can’t America see through this?

  7. Kamala Harris
    787 Votes (60.63%)
    Donald Trump
    634 Votes (48.84%)

Now, I’m not mathematician nor statistician, but I’m pretty sure those percentages are supposed to add up to 100% or less, not 100% or more.

  8. Kamala beat Trump hands down. The minute he started with completly false news of people eating pets, his credibility was gone. And he wouldn’t let it go that it was debunked. He did what he always does. He repeats how out of control things are because scare tactics are all he has. Claiming cities are over run with crime but national statistics don’t show it. She did a good job in the debate despite Trump getting twice as long to speak. Every segment, he’d go, she’d go, then he’d start talking and they turn his mic back on for another 2 minutes.

  9. Did Kamala have the switch to unmute her mic?.
She didn’t have any problem, talking over him with her mic on when the topic was abortion.
Calling this a debate is a complete abomination.
It was obvious that she had the questions and all the answers were rehearsed and memorized.
I was waiting for the jackass to ask her “Madam vice president there’s reporting from a city manager that Donald Trump went into an animal shelter and stomped seven newborn puppies to death.”
“Would you like to comment on that?.”
It would’ve been three on one if the questions had been fair.
It was more like five on one with these liberal pieces of ABC trash feeding her the prompts and lines for their shit show.

  10. Trump has repeatedly called Kamala, “low IQ.” If this is how poorly he performs against a low IQ opponent, how can he be trusted against other world leaders?

  11. I was better off with Trump !!!
    1. Before I paid 3.2% interest now 8.75% for my business
    2. No wars !! Now Russia Ukraine Israel Palestine
    3. Gas was $2.00 now it’s $4.00
    4. Rents were $ 1400 now they are $2400
    5. We had boarder patrol and almost finished the wall , now maybe 29 million illegals .
Ask any businss person how they are doing !!!!

  12. Kamala was scripted and needed 2 moderators to bail her. She didn’t debate anything. She read off memorized responses to the questions and topics her campaign chose to focus on to deflect from her terrible record as VP.

  13. That was a bad performance by kamala she was trying to sound like Barack Obama and she had David Muir and that other lady on her side .I got Trump ahead all day

  14. Mr. Trump was debating a tag team of two biased moderators and a woman who has never received one primary vote. These debates will not change anyones minds. They are a total embarrassment to the nation and world. We have no national media worthy of being called objective. I will vote for Mr. Trump even though he is flawed but at least know where he stands on issues. She is a flip flopping liar who will say anything to win.

  15. Vice President Harris won the debate!
Trump lied alot, and he was unhinged!
Harris proved she is the best choice for our next President!

  16. KHarris did a fantastic job and was well prepared on Tuesday Nights debate. She hit on every key point that people want to know about and she was prepared and kneew exactly what she wanted to say . I would absolutely say she definitely won the debate. She is .a winner!.

  17. Harris sounded like a politician, not answering questions directly, reflecting, saying two different things at the same time and anything to get elected while copying some of Donald trumps plans. Lying about some things completely like Project 2025 was kind of annoyed ABC didn’t fact check her on anything. She sounded like a the usual fake act politician.
Trump was very defensive and things got under his skin way to much he started to veer off in different directions, harris got under his skin. He did hit on the economy and the multiple wars since the biden harris administration opened up.

  18. The debate was a complete set up by the left and why was she so prepped cause the people asked questions were leftist demonrats the whole thing was set up just for her she had 3 and 1/2 years to make things right.Ahe is not going to do anything but continuing to destroy America! people wake up ,they are putting us in to fill out war !My President Trump was sabotaged by controlling left media again. And furthermore she was to stay quiet when was speaking and her mic was not shut off and she knew all along what question was to asked ,that’s why she had a prompter and a
hidden earpiece. She was was being trained this whole week and why she was in hiding.

  19. I would like to say hands down Kamala Harris won this debate. She had trump beyond flustered and quite frankly he continued to speak about what failed to be done while she has been vice president. How is that her fault when our president has final say. Or that our Supreme Court can veto any proposal set before them. It cannot all be placed on Vice President Harris. Give credit where credit is due. I find it beyond appalling that Trump still refuses to admit his faults not only on the attack on the capitol but also all of this 36 felony convictions. He should NEVER have been allowed to run again with any felony charges stacked against him. Any other person would have lost their job with even an Allegation of sexual assault as he has. What right does he have that goes against the protection of the victims? If he is elected president and all his charges dropped once he is in office it says to all victims of assault that as long as you are in a position of power that you can get away with anything. Absolutely no one should be allowed to get away with abuse of any kind. Especially not our president or our former president. This is the ultimate form of betrayal for anyone who has gone through a similar assault and has been denied justice. What’s next are we going to allow a convicted murderer to run and give them immunity for the crimes committed? Oh but that can also be said for trump he incited a riot so violent that it caused severe PTSD in many people who were viciously attacked. Resulted in multiple deaths and injuries. Any other time he would have been convicted of conspiracy to commit murder. Whether or not someone is there doesn’t take away from the fact they committed a crime. NO ONE should be exempt from the law. All he cares about is getting away with murder and rape at any cost and preventing any woman with a right to her own autonomy. He wishes to demolish any hope someone may have for sanctuary just because they are not white. This country was founded by being a safe place where people could go to escape persecution for their personal beliefs. When did we get away from the core values of this country? Yes I agree people should not come in illegally but those who do so properly should not be denied safety just because of their race or religious beliefs. I am completely disgusted by what this country has been reduced to because of people thinking it’s alright to do what you please without punishment. Where as long as you are in a position of power you can buy your way out of a conviction leaving any victims of any sort of crime vulnerable and undefended. Kamala Harris did a phenomenal job defending the rights of the people and proving she is for the people not for her own personal gain.

  20. Trump looked like a little “chihuahua “, you know scared from Haitian migrants biting his white-orange racist ass off the grill where Kamala Harris put him on since the debate stared, the guy’s pathetic, unhinged how can his cult followers don’t see it?
Unbelievable! Go Madam Vice President, the victory is our!

  21. The debate made it quite clear what the choices were;
A career public servant, whose only boss is the people of the U.S., versus a delusional dictator wannabe.

That he is delusional is evident, among other things, by the fact that he still insists he won the 2020 election, despite all evidence to the contrary. Harris reminded Trump that he said he intended to be a dictator, and he plans to pardon all the Jan. 6th convicts and what, create his own militia like the Brownshirts?

It also seemed to me that during the debate, Trump insisted on, and was given, extra rebuttal time, unfairly.

  22. Harris was poised, confident and on point. Trump was a babbling, rambling idiot who answered every question with the same rant about immigration. Kudos to David Muir for keeping things on task and reigning him in when necessary. Loved the fact checking on Trumps ridiculous statements

  23. When Trump supporters are saying things like, “It was Trump against three.” or “she was able to switch her mic on.” or I’ve even seen right wing nut jobs saying she had listening devices in her earrings, you know they know she won the debate even though they can’t come out and admit it. BTW, Trump was afforded the majority of the speaking time.

  24. Hey everyone. You may not like Trump but he is all for us americans. Kamala/obama want to socialize us. She says she wants us to be equal…but wants middle class to give to poor, not have them work for it like everyone else. Biggest thing is she let alot of terrorists in & who knows what they are planning to do. People, check your facts..she is scary with a smile.

  25. Biden got booted like a “dog” and Harris is suddenly the next coming of Wonder Women. Just like that!
The new word is PRAGMATIC. Bernie Sanders said it simply, ” She is doing what she thinks is right in order to win the election.” She needs to appear pragmatic. Her “values” are the same and she is still very progressive. Having one of the most progressive political records.
The DNC strategy, supported by the media: Today pragmatic – tomorrow dogmatic. Just like that! A well orchestrated sleight of hand.
The debate was a lot of very well rehearsed canned responses, like “Ready to Turn the Page” and “Looking Forward” which have real no meaning to the everyday person just trying to be a good citizen and provide.
    No talk of food security
    No talk of rising poverty
No talk of poor education – our children can’t read!
No talk of out of control government spending and the deficit – $35 trillion.
No talk of credit card debt that sits at $1.14 Trillion
No talk of 66.2 % of Americans living paycheck to paycheck
No talk of the homelessness crisis
No talk of the mental health crisis amongst the youth
No talk of the high interest rates, inflation, and the cost of goods going up over 20.9% ,motor vehicle repair services up 47.5%, auto insurance up 47.3%, electricity up 30% , rent, medical care, air fare and many more everyday items.
No talk of wages not rising at the same rate as consumer goods.
No talk of the 818,000 fewer jobs in March alone, than were initially reported. Oops!
No talk about the types of jobs created and who are filling those jobs.
No talk about how ‘ inflation leads to welfare losses, which are largest for younger, less-educated household and for retirement-age, college-age educated households.’
No talk of so many other everyday issues.
“Ready To Turn The Page.” Madame Vice President that is a nice packaged phrase, but first everyone needs to be on the same page. And I do not believe the debate got us there.

  26. Kamala Harris won hands-down. Harris showed composure, confidence, and was prepared. She gave us a hopeful and promising look towards the future. Trump was on the defensive, lied, and resorted to his usual fear mongering.
