Bridget Anne Kelly, whose name became synonymous with the George Washington Bridge Scandal, is getting back into the political arena.

In 2016, Kelly, Chris Christie’s former Deputy Chief of Staff and Christie’s political appointee, Bill Baroni, were both convicted of fraud and conspiracy. In 2020, in a stunning move, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned both of their convictions.

Kelly is seeking the Republican nomination for Bergen County Clerk, and if she wins, she will face Democratic incumbent John Hogan.

The Bergen County resident and mother of four talks to InsiderNJ’s Christine Sloan about the political scandal, which resulted in the lane closures on the George Washington Bridge back in 2013. A Federal grand jury found the lane closures were political retribution against Fort Lee’s Mayor Mark Sokolich, who would not endorse Christie for his re-election bid.

In the candid interview, Kelly talks about the former Republican Governor and the infamous email, “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.”

She also describes the first calls she got after her conviction was overturned — one of them coming from her son, Conor, the other her attorney.

“I got a phone call from my attorney in Washington, D.C. and he just said, Bridget, it’s over, we won, and I said, like what, he said we won, it’s over,”  Kelly said.
