Jasey to Retire

Assemblywoman Mila Jasey (D-28) will retire from the Assembly.

The veteran assemblywoman first assumed the oath of office for the seat in 2007, in place of the corruption banged-up Mims Hackett.

One of the lead authors of New Jersey’s Interdistrict Public School Choice Program in 2010, which allows private schools in urban areas to convert to charters, she has a reputation as a substantive lawmaker.

Her retirement causes an Essex County Democratic Committee post redistricting gut-check.

Jasey served in the 27th for her entire career.

The South Orange seat now occupies the 28th District, dominated by Newark and Irvington.

A source tonight told InsiderNJ that the committee will give a hard once over to its bench, with the priority of recruiting someone from Jasey’s hometown.
