U.S. Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-10) welcomed civil rights legend U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) to Newark last night for a star-studded fundraising gala.

Lewis gave the keynote speech at the annual Payne event, held downtown at the Robert Treat Hotel.

Those in attendance in a packed room included Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Speaker Emeritus Sheila Oliver of East Orange, East Orange Councilman (and Democratic State Committee ED) Chris James, and former Assemblyman Bill Payne.
