Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced the formation of his Senate campaign’s Black Clergy Advisory Council. This council will advise on all issues of importance regarding the Black faith community so that he can fight for their values in Washington DC.

“Representation starts with listening, and this advisory council will ensure that I’m hearing directly from leaders in the faith community about the challenges they face and the opportunities we should come together to seize,” said Kim. “Having the input of such a broad coalition is invaluable, and I appreciate the guidance and perspective of these leaders. I look forward to working with the Council to ensure that the priorities of communities of color are fully represented and executed in Washington.”

“I am looking forward to serving as a member of the Black Clergy Advisory Council,” said Reverend Dr. Timothy Adkins Jones of Bethany Baptist Church in Newark. “I am excited for the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue about federal funding and policies to advance affordable housing and quality, integrated education for my community and congregation,”

“This opportunity to work with the Black Clergy Advisory Council provides another avenue for me to contribute to the future of our republic by partnering with and educating Black voters about our power in the primary election,” said Reverend Dr. Willie Dwayne Francois III of Fountain Baptist Church in Summit. “As political first responders, Black clergy and Black communities have a historic unwavering commitment to protecting democratic institutions and expanding access to the ballot box. I look forward to working with Congressman Kim to give due visibility to Black voters and priorities.”

Too many candidates come to church solely to seek votes, but I appreciate Andy Kim’s proven record in Congress of working tirelessly on things that matter to my family and my congregation, like combating gun violence and ensuring that all Americans, especially those struggling, have access to affordable and quality healthcare and prescription medications,” said Reverend Dr. Cory Jones of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Burlington.

As a son of immigrants, a graduate from New Jersey public schools, and a young dad, Kim said he represents a new generation of leadership in the Democratic Party and is committed to making sure all voices are heard when making decisions. He made history as the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. He, and his wife Kammy, are raising two troublemaking boys down the road from where he grew up.
