Kim Calls for the Immediate Removal of President Trump From Office

Today, U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (D-3) released the following statement:

“Over the past twenty-four hours, I’ve had a chance to reflect on yesterday’s events. Our democracy is a fragile thing. We’ve seen it tested repeatedly across our history; yesterday was one of those moments in which it was brought to the brink. The violent insurrection we saw play out at our Capitol was the direct results of actions by President Trump. His urging of actions that put our basic institutions at risk directly contradicts the oath he swore as President.

It is clear to me, as it is to many of my colleagues from both sides of the aisle, that President Trump is not fit to continue in his role and incapable of leading our country. Our Constitution provides our government with options in these perilous times. It’s imperative that we come together – not just as Democrats and Republicans, but as Americans – to stand up for the health of our democracy and sanctity of our Constitution and remove President Trump from office immediately.

If we don’t act decisively and aggressively, we risk sending a message to future presidents and generations that such dangerous behavior is allowable. We must draw a clear line that these actions from the President are, and will always be, unacceptable. This can never happen again.

We have a chance in the coming weeks, with a new Congress and a new administration, to fix the way politics are done in America. We can show the American people that their elected officials are public servants, not political actors. We can do better, and that must start with the removal of this President.”

Congressman Kim is a member of the bipartisan House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis, where he serves as one of twelve members of the House tasked with conducting oversight over programs aimed at ending the Coronavirus pandemic and helping address the economic impact it’s having on the American people. Congressman Kim is also a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website by clicking here.
