Kim Condemns Trump for Politicizing Civil Servants’ Roles on National Security Council
Today, Senator Andy Kim released the following statement in response to recent reporting about President Trump’s politicization of nonpolitical national security roles:
“I was a career non-partisan civil servant detailed to the National Security Council. Never was I asked who I voted for or what political party I associate with. That’s the way it should be. The civil servants that serve at the NSC are of the highest caliber with extraordinary expertise. The last place that partisan politics belongs is in the Situation Room. Politicizing our national security will only make us less safe.”
Senator Kim is a member of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP); the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging. Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, Kim represented New Jersey’s Third Congressional District in the U.S. House and was a career public servant working in national security and diplomacy at the White House, State Department, and Pentagon.
