Kim Officially an Aye Vote on Trump Impeachment

U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (D-3)

U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (D-3) this afternoon signaled via twitter his intentions of voting in favor of the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump.

“This week, the House will take up articles of impeachment against the president. It is with a sense of humility, and with the future of our Constitution and presidency in mind, that I will vote yes on the articles of impeachment before the House,” Kim said.

A battleground 2018 victor over Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Tom McArthur, Kim occupies one of the most competitive 2020 districts in New Jersey.

The incumbent Democrat faces a challenge from the labor-connected Katie Gibbs, a Republican from Burlington County.

His vote in favor of impeachment does not come as a major revelation.

Earlier this year, Kim voiced his support to advance an impeachment inquiry into Trump.

Governor Phil Murphy this afternoon pointed to Kim and other battleground Democrats (U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill and U.S. Rep. Tom Malinowski) as examples of federal representatives living up to their obligations as Democrats. Unlike U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew. Van Drew is reportedly set to change parties from Democrat to Republican and went on record last week voicing his opposition to impeachment.

“They’re good examples of the positive side – standing up and making a decision, and I think they’ll be rewarded for that,” Murphy said.

Unlike Van Drew, he reiterated, who made “his decision based on a poll and one issue.”
