LD11 Flashpoint: Strafed by Operating Engineers Ad, Beck Tears into Gopal on Gas Tax Question
Both sides yanked off the gloves in LD11, with the gas tax sparking a new round of jabs and rights thrown at all angles against the backdrop of an ad dropped this past Saturday on state Senator Jennifer Beck (R-11) by the Operating Engineers, and the substance of an NJTV program.

“I opposed the tax hike on my residents,” Beck told InsiderNJ. “Camden County Vin went on record and said he would also have voted no until the Operating Engineers came to him with money and he suddenly began to equivocate.”
Beck referenced the competitors’ separate appearances this weekend on On the Record with Michael Aron.
“Mike Aron asked him about the gas tax and he said he hasn’t seen a list of projects. That was on Friday. The ad went up on Sept. 9,” the senator said. “That is all the people in the 11th District need to no about Camden County Vin.”
Beck said she voted for the repeal of the estate tax, and also opposed the gas tax hike, never taking the estate or gas tax swap that pulled other Republicans into the Transportation Trust Fund (TTF)funding deal. “The gas tax is a regressive tax, which disproportionately affects Monmouth County,” said Beck. “This attack by the Operating Engineers was not unexpected.”
Gopal struck back.
“What I said on Michael Aron is what I have always said in the past, I would have opposed the gas tax hike,” said the Democrat. “This attack by Senator Jen Beck is just an attempt to move attention away from her own record of taking multiple positions on multiple issues. Jen ‘Both Sides’ Beck has a long record of voting against bills she previously supported, all to preserve Christie’s perfect veto record, including support for women-owned businesses, Port Authority reform, Hurricane Sandy protections, and tax breaks for seniors. ‘Both Sides Beck’ even sold out her OWN gun safety legislation to appease Chris Christie.”
