LD16 Shocker: Bateman Hangs on by 200 Votes

State Senator Kip Bateman called for a legislative investigation into the questionable last-minute bill changes to the Economic Opportunity Act allegedly made by an unregistered lobbyist with ties to South Jersey Democratic Party Power Broker George Norcross III.

A woman from Hillsborough named Laurie Poppe almost defeated state Senator Kip Bateman (R-16) on Tuesday night.

Bateman won by just 200 votes.

Although heartbroken by Poppe’s loss, Somerset Democrats did pick up a clerk. Their candidate, Somerville Council President Steve Peter defeated veteran Somerset County Brett Radi.

They also picked up an additional Assembly seat in Roy Freiman from Hillsborough, running mate of a victorious Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker (D-16).
