LD21 Flashpoint: Lazare Says She Scores Dem Committee Support in New Providence, but Gunderman Objects

Union, Somerset and Morris counties have become battleground counties in both the Republican and Democratic primary elections for the NJ state assembly.

In her bid to land the Democratic nomination to run for the Assembly in Legislative District 21, attorney Jill Lazare said tonight she scored the support of the New Providence Democratic Committee. But local chair Stacey Gunderman – who’s also a candidate in LD21 – disputed Lazare’s information, and told InsiderNJ there was no vote tonight, and no quorum.

It’s a conflict.

A victory in the town would mean Lazare had nailed down support in Springfield, Roselle Park, Garwood, Summit, Mountainside, and New Providence, or six of the ten towns.

She said Gunderman of New Providence also won her home town committee’s backing for the second seat.

But Gunderman said no.

It was strictly an informational meeting with no action taken, she said.

Lazare wasn’t at the meeting, she added.

Attorney Lisa Mandelblatt of Westfield is also vying for Democratic support to represent the district currently occupied by Republican incumbents Assemblyman Jon Bramnick and Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz.

Lazare is politically close to Senator Joe Cryan (D-20).

Mandelblatt has political ties to Union County Democratic Committee Chairman Nick Scutari.
