LD3 Flashpoint: Durr Issues Statement Regarding Anti-Islam Tweet

Durr

Giant slayer state Senator-elect Ed Durr (R-3) issued the following statement regarding an anti-Islamic tweet sent in 2019:

“I’m a passionate guy and I sometimes say things in the heat of the moment. If I said things in the past that hurt anybody’s feelings, I sincerely apologize.

“I support everybody’s right to worship in any manner they choose and to worship the God of their choice. I support all people and I support everybody’s rights. That’s what I am here to do, work for the people and support their rights.”

The context, from NJ.com:

Hours after Edward Durr seemingly solidified his stunning election victory over state Senate President Stephen Sweeney, xenophobic and anti-Muslim social media messages have surfaced that were posted from his accounts.

The posts came to light shortly after the Associated Press projected Durr’s victory over Sweeney on Thursday morning in the 3rd legislative district, putting him on the verge of one of the biggest upsets in New Jersey political history.

With 100% of precincts reporting, Republican Durr led Democrat Sweeney 32,742 votes to 30,444 — 51.8% to 48.2%.

Durr, 58, did not immediately respond to two phone messages seeking comment.

A post from his Twitter account in September 2019 labeled Islam “a false religion” and its prophet, Muhammad, a “pedophile.”

  1. So have all the news sites followed the Associated Press’ lead in now reporting that Durr spent $2,300 on his campaign (and not $153) and that he ran for State Assembly in 2017 and 2019 (and is not a first-time candidate)? Looking forward to two years of news sites reporting every new thing he passionately says in the heat of the moment and not a single word evaluating how well he represents his district.

  2. Edward Durr simply stated the important truth that anyone can check on. Instead of vilifying the brave man people should be checking out what he said.
