Leg Leaders Kick Around the Luxury Beach Rental Tax Option

Democratic leadership from the NJ Assembly give a press conference after the chamber votes to approve the NJ 2020 budget.

Trying to summon a counter offensive as it preps for another meeting with Governor Phil Murphy, Legislative leadership is said to be kicking the tires on a possible luxury beach rental tax.

It’s not real yet, just in the discussion phase amid strained nerves among all the principals at this point and no immediate harmony on the horion.

Murphy yesterday release a letter containing the building blocks for what he says is compromise, absorbing Senate President Steve Sweeney’s (D-3) corporate business tax but not backing away from his core new revenue generator: the millionaire’s tax.

Deprived of specifics, Sweeney and company didn’t take the proposal seriously and resented Murphy’s decision to go to the media with his compromise.

Update: Sweeney proposed a counteroffer, with a shore rental tax, at an afternoon press conference.
